Fishermen Rescued East of Glace Bay

Three fishermen from Newfoundland were rescued after their boat went down east of Glace Bay, yesterday afternoon.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax says it got the initial mayday call at around 4:30 when the fishing boat began taking on water near Flint Island.

It adds by the time rescue personnel reached them, they had abandoned ship for a life-raft.

The men were then picked up by a Coast Guard auxiliary vessel and taken to Glace Bay.

Once in Glace Bay, local fisherman Herb Nash took the three men from the Mary’s Town-Fortune area to the North Sydney ferry terminal where they took the ferry to Port aux Basques.

Nash says the men were okay after the ordeal but adds he thinks they got a scare.
