Fishermen Rescued By Marine Atlantic Ferry

Three men were rescued by the Marine Atlantic ferry Leif Ericson last night after their fishing boat caught fire.

Marine Atlantic says a distress call came in at around 10:00.

The Sulian was found about 90 kilometers south of Port Aux Basques.

The Crown Corporation says the fishing boat’s life boat was also on fire and all three men were in the water in survival suits.

One of the men was checked out in Port aux Basques hospital and released.

All three are on their way back to Cape Breton on the Leif Ericson that’s due to dock at 12:30 this afternoon.

The fishing boat was owned by Waycobah First Nation.
