The first public consultation on the development of a charter for the Regional Municipality will take place this evening at City Hall in Sydney.
Mayor Cecil Clarke has been pushing for a Charter for the municipality because he says it would give it more economic freedom.
For example, he says a Charter will allow the municipality to sign long-term contracts without getting permission from the province.
Feedback from the sessions will be passed on to the provincial government.
Tonight’s consultation gets underway at 6:00, this evening.
A second session is scheduled for Saturday at 1:30 in the afternoon at City Hall.
