Feral Cat Clinic

The feral cat problem in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality was front and centre during a free vet clinic in Sydney, yesterday.

A total of 29 feral cats were spayed or neutered, tested for disease and treated for parasites during the fourth annual feral cat action day sponsored by Celtic Creatures Vet Clinic on Keltic Drive.

Veterinarian Karen Long says there are an estimated 20-thousand feral cats in Cape Breton but she adds every little bit helps in dealing with the problem.

Long says they had 14 cats at last year’s clinic, less than half this year’s number.

The cats were rounded up and brought in in live traps by people who found them wandering around their backyards or near their homes.

Long says the day was a success thanks to the number of donations they got to cover the costs of the expensive exercise.
