Senator Michael MacDonald was in New Campbellton, in Victoria County, today to announce over 32,000 dollars to fund upgrades at Kelly’s Cove Marina at the northeast entrance to the Bras d’Or Lake. The money comes through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency’s Innovative Communities Fund, and will support upgrades that ACOA says will provide solid infrastructure and safety for local and visiting recreational boaters. The multi-use facility hosts boaters, swimmers, sport fishers, divers, and kayakers. While it’s not a full-service marina, Kelly’s Cove offers shore power, floating docks, ladders, portable toilets, and a launch ramp, as well as on-site amenities such as picnic tables and a swimming platform. It also functions as an important navigational aid to boaters with a lighted beacon that operates on the end of the wharf.
