Federal Order Means No 2021 Cruise Ship Season

The CEO of the Port of Sydney says she’s very disappointed after the federal government effectively cancelled the 2021 cruise ship season today because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Marlene Usher says the port will have to go into some of its reserve funds and they hope that will get them through to next year.

Today’s order extends a ban first put in place during the first wave of the pandemic in March.

Boats with more than 100 people will not be allowed in Canadian waters and passenger boats with more than 12 people are banned from sailing in Arctic waters.

The order remains in effect until next February.
