Federal Money Announced For Transit

The federal government is contributing about $2.3 million to a transit project in the Regional Municipality.

It says Transit Cape Breton will buy two new traditional buses and two new hybrid accessible mini-buses and it will build five new bus shelters.

The project will also include a new smart card fare payment system, as well as new software the government says will make paratransit service more efficient.

The federal money comes through Ottawa’s Rural Transit Solutions Fund.

The municipality is contributing $595,000 to the project.
