Federal Money Announced For Sydney Housing Project

Ottawa has officially announced $5 million in funding for New Dawn Enterprises’ Harm Reduction Supportive Housing project in Sydney.

Federal Housing Minister Ahmed Hussen was in Sydney today for the announcement.

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation says the project will provide 24 affordable homes for those at risk of homelessness, including women and children.

The CMHC funding was a matter of controversy when the municipality turned down a proposal from groups led by New Dawn in March.

Council approved a second proposal last month.
