Federal Finance Minister Takes Questions At Sydney Town Hall

He didn’t come with money for the Port, but federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau did confirm $22 million for new mooring systems for Marine Atlantic during yesterday’s visit to Sydney.

The systems will be installed in both North Sydney and Port Aux Basques.

After the announcement, Morneau took questions at a Town Hall at the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion organized by Sydney-Victoria Liberal MP Mark Eyking.

Regional Councillor Eldon MacDonald told Morneau he wants Ottawa to create policies on how equalization payments are distributed within provinces.

MacDonald says that as transfer payments to Nova Scotia have increased over the years, the amount being distributed to the CBRM has decreased.

Morneau also took questions from the crowd of about one hundred on jobs, tourism and health transfer payments.
