Father Greg MacLeod Has Died

Well-know community activist Father Greg MacLeod has died at the age of 81 after a lengthy illness.

MacLeod was one of the founders of community economic development organization New Dawn Enterprises and the BCA Group.

The Sydney Mines native was ordained in 1961 and was appointed to teach at Xavier Junior College in Sydney.

He became involved in community economic development when the coal mines were closing in 1969.

Macleod also founded the Tompkins Institute at Cape Breton University and was a member of the Order of Canada.

His funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
