Family To Get Next Habitat For Humanity Home Announced

The Cape Breton chapter of Habitat for Humanity has announced the family that will benefit from its next project on the Island.

Ann and Jason McLean and their four children will be handed the keys to a yet-to-be built house on the corner of Breton and Robert streets in Whitney Pier.

Local chapter chair Adrian Wilson says the McLean family fit the criteria to become the non-profit organization’s partner for the new project.

Jason McLean works for a local retail shop, while Ann is a stay-at-home mom and the family couldn’t save the money needed to qualify for a mortgage.

They’ll have to put at least 500 hours of sweat equity into the project and assume the mortgage, once the home is built.

Construction on their new house in Whitney Pier is expected to begin in the spring.

The Whitney Pier house is the second project for the local Habitat for Humanity chapter.

In 2013, the chapter renovated half a company house on Mechanic Street in Glace Bay.
