Expected Turnout for By-Election Advance Votes

Elections Nova Scotia spokesperson Dana Doiron says the number of early voters taking advantage of write-in ballots and continuous polling in two Cape Breton constituencies is meeting expectations for a by-election.

Doiron adds with one day of continuous voting left to be counted last night, 1,091 people had cast ballots at the Sydney-Whitney Pier returning office.

That compares with 1,190 votes cast by the same method in the 2013 general election.

Only 89 write in ballots have been cast to date, compared with 359 in 2013.

Meanwhile 322 people have voted at the returning office in Cape Breton Centre, compared with 407 in the last election.

192 people have used write-in ballots, compared with 210 the last time.

Continuous polling closed at 8:00 last night, but people can still cast early ballots at advance polls today and tomorrow.

There will then be no more voting until Election Day on Tuesday, July 14th.
