Exceptions Announced For New Border Restrictions

Premier Iain Rankin announced exceptions today to a rule preventing people from moving to the province while the latest border restrictions are in effect.

The government is facing criticism for the rule but Rankin says they didn’t mean to create problems for those who may be left without a place to live.

People can apply for an exception if they have a buy or sale agreement for a property in 2021, showing that an offer was accepted on or before April 21 and a closing date is on or before May 20.

Exceptions will also apply to those with a minimum one-year lease signed on or before April 21 and beginning on or before May 20.

For those with a letter of acceptance for new employment in the province that can’t be done virtually or deferred, the letter will have to be dated on or before May 7th.

Instructions for applying for an exception will be posted on the province’s COVID-19 information site.
