Eskasoni to open cannabis dispensary

The Eskasoni First Nation is planning to open its own cannabis dispensary.

Chief Leroy Denny says having a dispensary run by the band council will both improve safety and cut down on illegal cannabis in the community.

He says the new dispensary could also raise money for healthcare and social programming.

Earlier this month, a number of adults and children in Eskasoni needed medical attention after unintentionally eating cannabis-infused products.

Denny says the band and Eskasoni RCMP have been working on some safety initiatives in response, including giving out lockboxes to residents using edible products.
