Emergency Child-Care Funding Announced

The province has announced a total of $1.75 million in emergency funding for child-care centres.

It says the funding is meant to make sure the centres can still be run while capacity is capped at 60 per cent under COVID-19 restrictions.

The money covers staffing and operational costs but not loss of profit.

The funding comes after the province promised money to the child-care sector to replace fees paid by parents who chose to keep their kids at home temporarily.

The province says financial support will continue for as long as necessary at an estimated cost of $850,000 per week.

It also says it’s provided personal protective equipment to centres at no cost.
