Edmonton Man Convicted in Stabbing Death of Mabou Man

An Edmonton man has been convicted of manslaughter in the 2012 stabbing death of a Mabou man in Alberta.

23-year-old Cody Kyle Jensen was initially charged with second degree murder after 22-year-old Kenzie John Beaton was stabbed at a Jasper hotel and later died in hospital.

Jensen testified that he acted in self-defence but yesterday a judge found him guilty of manslaughter.

Beaton was on a skiing trip with friends when a disagreement broke out over noise.

Police were on their way to the hotel in response to a disturbance call when they were informed of the stabbing.

Jensen had originally elected to be tried by judge and jury but later opted for trial by judge alone.

He continues his release on conditions.

A sentencing date has not been scheduled.
