Drug Arrests Made In Eskasoni

RCMP arrested several people on drug-related charges in Eskasoni during the past few days. The first arrests took place in the course of a traffic stop on Shore Road on Thursday morning, at which time police say they discovered marijuana in the suspects’ vehicle. Two men, aged 23 and 27, and a 24 year-old woman are facing charges of possessing a controlled substance. All three have been released from custody on conditions and are scheduled to appear in court on June 17th. Meanwhile, at about 9 pm on Friday, another vehicle stop on Shore Road resulted in the arrest of a 64 year-old Sydney River man, who police say was prohibited from driving and was in possession of hydromorphone. The man is facing several offences under the Motor Vehicle Act, as well as possession for the purpose of trafficking, and is slated to appear in court in Sydney on September 2nd.

Dave Desveaux, a native of New Waterford leverages his experience and passion for research in The Coast 89.7 Newsroom where as the Weekday Newscaster. His foray into radio began with a research position at The Coast, which led to the production of a radio documentary on the music of the Mi’kmaq people. The program, entitled “First Nations, First Music” was co-produced with fellow Coast personality Ron Neville and released in early 2011. A graduate of Breton Education Centre, Dave went on to get a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and Sociology from Cape Breton University, as well as a Master of Arts Degree in Sociology from Dalhousie University. He has worked as a teaching assistant at Dalhousie, and in various short-term customer service and research positions.
