Drivers Reminded To Use Extra Caution On This First Day Of School

Regional Police are reminding drivers to use extra caution and allow extra time for travel on this first day back at school for students.

The speed limit in school zones drops to 30 km/h in areas where the approaching speed limit is 50 when students are outside and within 30 metres of the road.

The speed limit goes down to 50 km/h where the approaching speed limit is higher.

Speed fines in school zones start at $352.50 for a first offence.

Drivers are also being asked to pay attention around crosswalks and to school bus signals.

The penalty for illegally passing a school bus is 6 points against the driver’s license and a fine starting at $410.00.
