Donkin Seismic Testing Postponed

The owners of the Donkin Mine have announced they’re postponing planned seismic testing in the waters off the mine site.

Kameron Coal’s plans have been approved by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, but the testing is being opposed by local fishermen and indigenous people who fear it will have a negative effect on the fishery.

Kameron says it still plans to do the testing later next year, but it adds the postponement will give them time to address the concerns that have been raised.

The company says the testing is necessary to understand the geology of the mine.

Today’s announcement comes after mine representatives held meetings with fishermen and other opponents of the testing earlier this week.
