Donkin Mine Protest, Today

People with concerns about the Donkin Mine are holding another protest today at the corner of Long Beach Road and the Morien Highway.

They’re protesting the use of local roads to truck coal at what they say is all hours of the day and night.

The Cow Bay Environmental Coalition also released a report today by Cape Breton University professor Sarah Barnes that looks at the toll industrial noise from the mine is having on people who live in the area.

Eighteen people were interviewed for the study.

It finds noise from the mine’s ventilation fans is linked to sleep loss and deteriorating mental and physical health for people in the area.
