The province has approved a request from Kameron Coal to renew its industrial approval for the Donkin Mine.
The seven-year approval sets out what the Environment Department calls stringent conditions and takes effect at midnight on Monday.
The conditions include contributing to meeting the province’s emissions targets, compliance with industrial noise guidelines, groundwater and surface water monitoring and having a degasification system up and running by March 14th.
The company is also required to respond directly to questions or complaints from the local community within five business days.
The province says the Department of Public Works has approved the company’s transportation route and is working to improve roads and intersections near the mine.
