Dominion Standoff Ends Peacefully

Cape Breton Regional Police say a standoff in Dominion has ended peacefully.

Police responded to reports of a suicidal man in a home on Kings Road, shortly before 11:00, last night.

They say when officers arrived on the scene the man appeared with a firearm, barricaded himself inside and refused to let them enter.

Members of the Emergency Response Team along with a Negotiator were sent in and people in nearby homes were told to stay inside.

The street was also barricaded for two blocks around the house.

Police say the standoff ended at around 6:30 this morning when members of the Emergency Response Team entered the home and found the man unconscious with a loaded rifle lying next to him.

He’s been transported to hospital for further examination.

The Major Crime Unit and Ident sections have now been called in to investigate.
