The price of diesel took a dramatic jump overnight after the Utility and Review Board used the interrupter clause for the second time this month. Diesel went up by 7.1 cents a litre and now goes for a minimum of $1.29.8 in Cape Breton. The price hike follows a jump of 4.6 cents a litre on Friday. Analysts say the price increase was triggered by a shortage of diesel and furnace oil in the northeastern U-S and eastern Canada. At the beginning of this the month the UARB used the interrupter clause to impose a mid-week 6.5 cent a litre jump in gasoline. The Board is still scheduled to make its weekly adjustment to fuel prices overnight on Thursday.
