Details Announced On Firefighters’ Insurance Coverage Increase

Workplace injury insurance for firefighters and their families will soon cover more types of cancer and heart attacks.

The province says it’s acting on its commitment to increase presumptive coverage from six to 19 types of cancer for firefighters.

The additional coverage will be in amendments to the Firefighters Compensation Regulations under the Workers’ Compensation Act and the amendments will take effect on July 1st.

The province will cover the total liability cost of $80.6 million for four fiscal years and municipalities will not take on any more liability costs until fiscal year 2025.
