Desmond To Be First Woman On Face Of Banknote

Nova Scotia black rights activist Viola Desmond will be the first Canadian woman to appear on the face of a banknote.

Desmond’s sister, Wanda Robson from North Sydney was in Ottawa for this morning’s announcement.

Desmond was chosen from a short list of five finalists.

Her face will be on a series of 10 dollar bills released in 2018.

She became an activist after being arrested for sitting in the white’s only section of a New Glasgow movie theatre in 1946.
