Delorey In Cape Breton To Make Healthcare Announcement

Health Minister Randy Delorey could be announcing hundreds of millions of dollars for emergency departments in Sydney and Glace Bay, this morning.

Delorey is holding a news conference in Membertou to announce what’s being described as an update on the government’s Healthcare Redevelopment plan for the Regional Municipality.

The province plans to close the hospitals in New Waterford and North Sydney and replace them with community health centres that don’t have emergency departments.

The plan also calls for upgrades to the emergency departments in Glace Bay and Sydney.

Meanwhile, the group Capers 4 Healthcare says it plans to be at this morning’s news conference to protest the plan to close emergency departments.

The event is due to get underway at 11:00 at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre.
