Day 11 Campaign Highlights

Liberal leader Iain Rankin released his party’s healthcare platform in Halifax today.

Rankin says a re-elected Liberal government would add $131 million to the current health budget that now stands at about $400 million.

They’re also promising eight more walk-in mental health clinics and virtual care for 69,000 people who are still waiting for a family doctor.

Meanwhile, PC Leader Tim Houston made a pledge earlier today to reduce crowding in hospital emergency departments by creating a new treatment program for chronic illnesses that will focus on in-home treatment.

Elsewhere, the New Democrats promised a stronger reduction target for greenhouse gas emissions.

They say they will limit the province’s emissions to 50 percent below 1990 levels by 2030.
