Davis Day Cancelled

The Davis Day service is cancelled for the second year in a row this year because of COVID-19.

The June 11th event to honour coal miners killed on the job is named after William Davis.

He was shot and killed by police during a coal miners’ strike in 1925.

Bobby Burchell with the United Mine Workers of America says they can’t hold the event again this year because of pandemic restrictions.

Burchell is asking people to follow COVID protocols while placing wreaths at miners’ memorials on June 11th.
