Dave Wilson Hoping To Re-enter Politics

The former MLA for Glace Bay is looking to get back into politics after serving jail-time for expense account fraud.

Dave Wilson is running to represent District 10 on Regional Council.

In April of 2012 Wilson was sentenced to a nine months in jail after admitting to defrauding the province of nearly $61,000 over a five-year period.

Wilson says a gambling addiction led him to take money that wasn’t his.

He adds he’s made mistakes but is asking people to give him a second chance to represent them.

Wilson will be taking time off as host of the morning show here on the Coast during the campaign.

Former Regional Councillor Darren Bruckschwaiger and Glace Bay businessman Brian Shaw are also running to represent District 10.

Meanwhile, today is the deadline for nominations for October 15th’s municipal and school board elections.

Potential candidates for mayor, councillor or school board have to be 18 years old, a Canadian citizen and have lived in the municipality where they’re running since March 15.

Candidates also have to be nominated by five people whose names appear on the final list of voters.
