Cuzner Holds Off On Campaign, Criticizes Early Election Call

A local Member of Parliament is biding his time before hitting the campaign trail on the heels of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s visit to Rideau Hall yesterday. Cape Breton Canso MP Rodger Cuzner says that taxpayers’ money and time are being wasted in what will be one of the longest federal campaigns in modern Canadian history. The Liberal MP speculates that the governing Conservatives are trying to outspend their rivals by dropping the writ early and extending limits on campaign funding. Cuzner says that his campaign funds usually amount to about $60,000. Candidates are now being allotted up to $160,000, though Cuzner says that his spending will be well under that amount. The long-time incumbent is running against Conservative Adam Rodgers, New Democrat Michelle Smith and Libertarian Wayne Hiscock.
