Croney Sentencing Adjourned

A sentencing hearing has been adjourned until next month for a Glace Bay woman who pleaded guilty to two charges in connection to her boyfriend’s death.

28 year-old Christina Michelle Croney was scheduled to be sentenced today but the hearing was adjourned until Tuesday.

Croney was originally charged with criminal negligence causing death and dangerous driving causing death after Matthew Somerton died in April of 2014.

However, in court in late May, Croney pleaded guilty to failing to stop at the scene of an accident and not offering assistance to an injured person.

Police say Croney was backing the couple’s truck out of the driveway after they had an argument, when Somerton opened the driver’s door.

They add he fell as he ran alongside the vehicle and was run over.
Croney left the scene and Somerton was found unresponsive.
He died in Halifax hospital on April 5th of 2014.
