Croney Sentenced To House Arrest

A Glace Bay woman has been sentenced to 21 months of house arrest after pleading guilty to two charges in the death of her boyfriend, Matthew Somerton.

28 year-old Christina Michelle Croney will also have to spend a year on probation after her house arrest is over and will be banned from operating a motor vehicle for three years.

In May, she pleaded guilty to counts of failing to stop at the scene of an accident and not offering assistance to an injured person.

Police say Croney was backing the couple’s truck out of the driveway after they had an argument, when Somerton opened the driver’s door.

They add he fell as he ran alongside the vehicle and was run over.

Croney left the scene and Somerton was found unresponsive.

He died in Halifax hospital in April of 2014.
