Council’s Budget Sessions Continue, Today

Regional Councillors will have to deliberate on a proposed operating budget today after spending all-day yesterday debating the capital budget.

Councillors narrowly passed a 34-million dollar capital budget by a vote of 7-6.

However, there was spirited debate over the lack of money for local roads in the document.

Several Councillors questioned 4.5 million dollars in funding for renovations at the Bayplex in Glace Bay.

The capital budget also contains 10.5 million dollars for the first year of construction on a second cruise ship berth in Sydney Harbour.

The proposed operating budget is nearly 147 million.
