Councillor Says Canso Will Take War Memorial

If Cape Breton doesn’t want it, Canso will take it.

That’s the message a councillor in Guysborough County has for the private foundation proposing a war memorial for the Highlands National Park.

The project has created a huge controversy with supporters and opponents battling it out in opinion pieces, rallies and at news conferences.

But Fin Armsworthy who represents the former Town of Canso says he thinks the memorial honouring Canada’s war dead would be a great thing for the community as well as a boost for local tourism.

At next Wednesday’s Guysborough Council meeting, Armsworthy says he intends to put forward his idea to begin public consultations on offering Canso as an alternative location for the proposed memorial.
