Councillor Charlie Keagan Has Died

Northside councillor Charlie Keagan has died at the age of 74.

Keagan suffered a heart attack recently and Mayor Cecil Clarke says he had appeared to be recovering well.

However, Clarke adds Keagan suffered a stroke yesterday morning and died at around 2:00, yesterday afternoon.

Clarke goes on to say Keagan had been working to return to his Council seat for last night’s monthly meeting that was cancelled as a result of his death.

Flags at the Civic Centre in Sydney will fly at half mast today in honour of Keagan.

Keagan served for 16 years as a councillor and a deputy mayor for the former town of North Sydney.

He was elected to Regional Council in 2012 after also serving on the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board.

He was a retired Marine Atlantic worker.
