Council To Discuss North Sydney Forum Demolition

Regional Council will be asked to vote on a bid to demolish the North Sydney Forum during today’s summer meeting in Big Pond.

A call for expressions of interest from anyone interested in the demolition, disposal and salvage of the Forum closed on June 30.

Planning Director Malcolm Gillis has put together an issue paper recommending that the CBRM fund the project by accepting the lowest bid.

Gillis is also recommending that the North Sydney Forum Society transfer two parcels of land at the Forum site to the low bidder and a third lot to the CBRM.

The North Sydney Community Forum Society asked the CBRM to take over the property last fall because the cost to tear down the Forum was too much for the group to handle.

The cost of the demolition has been estimated at between $160,000 and 190,000.

Today’s council meeting gets underway at 1:30 this afternoon at the Big Pond Fire Hall.
