Council Seeking Briefing On Port File

Regional Council is asking for a briefing on how port development efforts will be affected by Mayor Cecil Clarke’s bid for the provincial Tory leadership.

District 2 Councillor Earlene MacMullin introduced a motion seeking the briefing at today’s council meeting.

The motion asked for council to be educated on the port file and be prepared to take ownership of it if Clarke wins the Tory leadership next month.

The motion also says the Port of Sydney has requested the ability to market the port outside of its current mandate, and MacMullin says a briefing is needed to help council make an informed decision on the request.

The briefing has yet to be scheduled, but Municipal Clerk Deborah Campbell is expected to consult with councilors and schedule a date over the next few days.
