Council Approves Budget Changes

Regional Councillors approved changes to this fiscal year’s operating budget at a meeting held by video/teleconference this afternoon.

The budget of more than 154 million dollars will be supported with transfers from the Operating Reserve and the Emergency Operating Reserve if necessary.

The municipality is projecting financial losses in a number of areas because of COVID-19.

At today’s meeting, Councillor Darren Bruckschwaiger was among those calling for help from the province and Ottawa.

Bruckschwaiger’s comments come after the Nova Scotia Federation of Municipalities released a report saying residential tax rates will have to go up by an average of 7.1 percent if the province and Ottawa don’t offer financial help.
