Committee To Discuss Financial Viability Report

A report on the Regional Municipality’s financial viability says the municipality is stretching its resources at current levels of service and taxation.

The municipality hired consultants Grant Thornton to do the study and a representative of the firm will be speaking at a meeting of the Viability Study Steering Committee this morning.

The report says most of the factors affecting the municipality’s financial viability are outside of its control.

It says among those factors are the costs of meeting regulatory requirements and a trend of declining net funding from other levels of government.

This morning’s steering committee meeting gets underway at City Hall in Sydney at 9:30.
