Clarke To Make Announcement Saturday

Regional Mayor Cecil Clarke is scheduled to make an announcement this coming weekend on whether he’ll run for the provincial Tory leadership.

A social media post headlined “We Have Big News” says hundreds of Tories from across the province will be present when Clarke makes his announcement in North Sydney on Saturday afternoon.

Clarke confirmed last month he was considering entering the race that will pit him against Tory MLA’s Tim Houston and John Lohr.

Former Leader Jamie Baillie had announced his intention to resign when a new leader is chosen, but he stepped down last week amid accusations of sexual harassment.

Karla MacFarlane is now the party’s interim leader.

Clarke’s announcement is set to take place at the North Sydney Fireman’s Club on Saturday from 1-3 pm.
