Clarke To Help Mark Port of Sydney Milestone

Mayor Cecil Clarke will greet the first passenger to disembark from Holland America’s Veendam later this morning to mark a milestone for the Port of Sydney.

Port officials say Sydney has now greeted more than a million cruise ship passengers.

They add records on the number of passengers arriving have been kept since the year 2000.

However, they go on to say the unofficial first ship of call arrived in1968 and add they can’t accurately estimate how many over a million passengers Sydney has welcomed.

Meanwhile, more than100,000  passengers & crew are expected to arrive this season.

The Port of Sydney says the economic spinoffs from those visitors are estimated to be more than 22-million dollars.

The Veendam is due to arrive in Sydney at 11:00, this morning.
