Regional Municipality Mayor Cecil Clarke is expected to announce his bid for the provincial Tory leadership today.
A social media post headlined “We Have Big News” says hundreds of Tories from across the province will be present when Clarke makes his announcement in North Sydney on this afternoon.
Clarke confirmed last month he was considering entering the race.
PC MLA’s Tim Houston and John Lohr are the other candidates who are currently running for the post.
The announcement comes two days after Clarke told the CBC he was gay after what he calls a low week.
He adds someone was threatening to reveal his sexuality.
Former Leader Jamie Baillie had announced his intention to resign when a new leader is chosen, but he stepped down last week amid accusations of sexual harassment.
Karla MacFarlane is now the party’s interim leader.
Clarke’s announcement is set to take place at the North Sydney Fireman’s Club starting at 1:00.
