City Hall HVAC Replacement Plans Unclear

It’s now unclear what will happen with a proposed project at City Hall in Sydney after a debate during today’s Regional Council meeting.

Councillors were asked to approve the only bid to replace the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning unit in the building.

The bid has come in at more than 700-thousand dollars over the million dollar estimate, mostly because of unforeseen structural work, and it was proposed to take the extra money out of next year’s capital budget if the bid is approved.

Staff said the work has to be done as soon as possible, and that led some councillors to vote in favour of a motion to accept the bid.

However, other councillors were concerned about the extra cost and voted against the motion.

The motion was defeated when it got a tie vote and Chief Administrative Officer Marie Walsh told council that leaves staff with no clear direction on the matter.

Deputy Mayor James Edwards says the matter will be dealt with at a future meeting.
