Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland has resigned from the federal cabinet.
In her resignation letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Freeland writes Trudeau told her on Friday he no longer wants her to serve as Minister of Finance.
She says Trudeau offered her another role in cabinet, but she says upon reflection, she decided the only visible and honest path forward is to resign from cabinet.
Freeland also says she found Trudeau and herself at odds over the past number of weeks over the best path forward for Canada.
She mentions the threat of 25 percent tariffs from president-elect Trump’s administration and says this means keeping our fiscal powder dry and shunning what she calls costly political gimmicks.
