Chronicle Herald Boycott

Seventeen candidates for Halifax Regional Council have issued a statement saying they’re boycotting the Chronicle Herald during the election campaign.

57 newsroom employees with the Halifax-based newspaper have been on strike since January 23rd, including three at the company’s Sydney office.

The Halifax candidates say they support the unionized workers who’ve been on strike for 9 months, and counting.

They add it’s their hope both sides will come back to the bargaining table and reach a fair deal.

Last month, the Chronicle Herald stopped publishing its free weekly, the Cape Breton Star after the company said it came against a prevailing headwind of union sympathy.
