Cape Breton Senator Dan Christmas is among a group of Senators pressing the province and Ottawa on an inquiry into April’s mass shooting.
Christmas and five other Senators are calling on both levels of government to make an announcement on the inquiry in the coming days.
Justice Minister Mark Furey says he’s working with his federal counterpart, Public Safety Minister Bill Blair, to set up a joint inquiry.
However, the Senators say the wait for an inquiry is leading to speculation about the shooting and the man behind it.
They also say the wait risks reducing trust between the public and law enforcement.
