Childcare Workers Getting Wage Increases & Benefits

Early childhood educators and workers in licensed child-care centres in the province are getting wage increases as well as benefits and pensions for the first time.

The wage increase will see Early Childhood Educators or ECE’s getting salaries ranging from $22.91 to $28.78 an hour.

That goes up to $34.54 for ECE’s in leadership roles.

The wage increase takes effect on April 1st with workers starting to be enrolled in the group benefits and pension plan starting in May.

The Province is kicking in $75.7 million for the initiative with the federal government providing in $35.3 million through the universal childcare agreement with Ottawa.
