Charlotte St. Redevelopment Starting Next Week

The Regional Municipality says construction work will start a week from today on the first phase of the $9-million redevelopment of Charlotte Street in Sydney.

A section between Dorchester and Pitt Street will be open only to people on foot for about 14 weeks.

Businesses in the area will be open.

Work will include road excavation, waterline and utility installation, sidewalk construction and paving.

Meanwhile, Transit Cape Breton routes will change because of the work.

New bus shelters were put at the corner of George and Pitt Streets ahead of the project and the current hub location at Dorchester will move to George and Pitt on Monday.

The municipality says more information on the transit route changes is coming this week.
