Charges Laid After Assault Reported In New Waterford

Regional Police say a 50 year-old man has been arrested after an assault and possible weapons threat in New Waterford overnight.

Police say they got a call at about 4:00 this morning to the area near Hudson Street and Ellsworth Avenue where a man is thought to have assaulted a woman and then drove away.

The woman was brought to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say their investigation led them to a property on Smith St. where a man was found outside of his vehicle and refused to obey officers’ commands.

They say the man claimed to have a weapon and went into the home.

The man was arrested at about 5:30 this morning and police say charges are pending.

They say their investigation continues.
