Challenging Year Ahead For Local Tourism Industry: Destination CB CEO

The CEO of Destination Cape Breton says the next year is going to be a challenging one for the island’s tourism industry because of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Terry Smith spoke at a special meeting of Regional Council this morning.

He says many businesses are struggling and could use more help from government.

Smith also told councillors things are expected to start getting back to normal next year.

Smith was one of a number of speakers at today’s meeting, with others including representatives from Parks Canada and the restaurant, hotel and air and ground transportation industries.

Mayor Amanda McDougall says the municipality is going to spend the next couple of weeks considering what was presented today and how the municipality can help.
